The air cargo market is experiencing an unusual peak as 2024 concludes, driven by pre-tariff exports from China to the US and high demand for electronics. According to Dimerco Express, cargo volumes surged mid-December, defying typical seasonal slowdowns. Kathy Liu, Dimerco’s VP of global sales, highlighted the extended peak season through January, fueled by consumer electronics and strategic cargo shifts. With impending tariffs from the Trump administration, shippers are expediting airfreight. This surge has pushed capacity to critical levels, with some routes fully booked. Rising airfreight rates, reported by TAC Index, reflect this heightened demand. The market signals strong momentum heading into 2025.
